About Glenview Iron & Metal Ltd.
Headquartered in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Glenview Iron & Metal Ltd. hauls, shreds, processes and recycles metal commodities. Their equipment, which consists of hauling trucks, loaders, excavators, bobcats, shredders, roll-offs, garbage packers and compactors, are all pushed to the limit in less-than-ideal environments and extreme temperature ranges. Their excavators, loaders and bobcats extract, lift and move heavy scrap products for up to six days per week and ten hours per day in very dusty and muddy scrap yard conditions. Their trucks run up and down Canada’s busiest highway for five to seven days, 4,025 km (2,500 mi), per week.

80% of Glenview Iron & Metal Ltd.’s equipment uses hydraulics; thus ensuring enhanced hydraulic performance is of utmost importance to them. In the past, before switching to Petro-Canada’s HYDREX AW 46, they were having serious issues. “Cylinders, in our loaders and excavators, were leaking all the time, chroming was coming off the cylinders … it was a mess. We have cylinders on pretty well every piece of equipment we have here, so you can imagine just how important hydraulics are to us,” says John Vandine, Operations Manager, Glenview Iron & Metal Ltd.
“70% of our fleet was down with wheel bearing problems,” says Vandine. “I knew I had to change my gear oil; it just wasn’t doing the job … the resulting repair costs and downtime were unacceptable.”
“By using Petro-Canada’s HYDREX AW 46 and TRAXON 80W-90 in combination with an oil monitoring program, we’re reducing downtime and repairs, and saving a substantial amount of money.” “Since switching to Petro-Canada lubricants we don’t worry about our equipment breaking down as a result of inferior lubrication.” What sets HYDREX and TRAXON apart is that they are free of most of the impurities found in competitive oils. Both fluids start with a blend of base oils which includes Petro-Canada’s 99.9% ultra-pure base oil made from the HT purity process. The unique combination of base oils and additives results in their ability to retain their “fresh oil” properties longer.
“I deal with Petro-Canada and their service is excellent. They stand behind their products and that is very important to me. Not only does Petro-Canada provide me with great lubricant products but they also provide me with great customer service.”
